emulate a bluetooth headset?

Filed under: apple, bluetooth — plambert @ 6:52 pm

i have a powerbook, thanks to my employer.

i have an ipod.

i also have a nice nokia 3650 bluetooth telephone.

i use them all a great deal. i love them, even.

but there’s something missing…

my nokia supports bluetooth headsets. i’ve considered getting one, but they’re pretty expensive and they don’t do what i want.

my powerbook supports bluetooth headsets. i’ve considered getting one, but they’re pretty expensive and they don’t do what i want.

so what do i want?!

i would like my powerbook to emulate a bluetooth headset. so if my phone rings, i can answer it via my powerbook. and have my powerbook automatically pause itunes, let me finish my call, and go back to it.

why?

because i have a set of cheap headphones i like. they’re the most comfortable headphones i’ve ever been able to find. i don’t remember where i got them, and i’ve not seen them since, but dammit, i like them, and i want to use them when i can.

so if i could send the audio from my phone to my powerbook, and have it play it over my headphones, i wouldn’t need two sets of headphones. nor would i need an expensive bluetooth earpiece that only goes in one ear and sounds terrible for playing music.

so that’s what i want. bluetooth emulation for my mac. bring it on!

  2. i am using a 15″ PB with a class 2 bluetooth usb device. i also have a SE T610 phone. so far, i am unable to use OSX to emulate a headset, but WinXP had no problems with that.. trying both operating systems, it seems that winxp has more of an advantage with bluetooth. my cell phone has no reception in my apartment, and would like to stick the phone at a place where i can at least get one bar service, then use the PB as a bluetooth headset so i dont have to go outside everytime i talk. i also use Romeo, and take advantage of iSync and iCal bluetooth benefits.

if i find out any info, ill let you guys know. ive been researching for awhile, and so far no luck
